Gems have a low chance to drop from any Monster!
Gems are one of the methods available in Soul's Remnant to improve the strength of one's equipment, increasing the amount that a line will provide, independent of line quality.
Upgrading
Using a gem will destroy the gem and remove one Upgrade Slot from the piece of equipment it is used on, applying its effect and adding (+1) to the item's name. You will also receive a message telling you what was upgraded (or changed) and by how much.
In order to use a gem on an item, you must go into your inventory and then drag the gem over the piece of equipment you wish to upgrade.
+ Dragging the gem with Left Click will make it so you only use one gem.
+ Right Clicking on the gem will make it easier to use multiple gems in a row, simply by clicking the left mouse button over the piece of equipment repeatedly. Right click again to stop using Gems.
Gem Types
Nurturing Gem: Adds +1 to a randomly selected Stats line, improving it and making the item stronger.
Mystic Gem: Adds +1 to a randomly selected Echoes line, and that line's position in particular will remain +1 even if changed via Souls.
Calamity Gem: The Calamity Gem has a low chance to potentially destroy the item when used, so it is always a risk. When the item is not destroyed, you can go from using an Upgrade Slot to weaken and lock the item, or gaining a net of +1 Upgrade Slots, or something else.
Here is a list of what we know can happen with a Calamity Gem:
- ITEM IS DESTROYED
- Nothing happens
- Stats values are randomized
- Echoes values are randomized
- Echoes randomized, then strengthened
- Echoes randomized, then weakened
- Echoes randomized, then strengthened and locked
- Echoes randomized, then weakened and locked
- Echoes are locked
- All Stats and Echoes are locked
- One Stats line is locked
- One Echoes line is locked
- One Echoes line is completely removed
- Remove all Echoes lines
- Add one Echoes line
- Add two Echoes lines
- Gain a net of +1 Upgrade Slots
- Weapon changes Element Type
- Adds +3 to a random Stats line
- Adds +3 to a random Echoes line
- All Echoes are strengthened
- All Echoes are weakened
- All locked Echoes are unlocked
