General Description

Yes, it costs a little MP to first toggle on Mana Shield. Don't worry about it :D

"Power" refers to how much of the damage you take is redirected to your mana pool. More power means less HP damage, more MP damage.

When the skill calls itself Mana Shield, it means that quite literally. It isn't uncommon for some players to simply have a shield worth 100 or more HP while walking around with Mana Shield toggled on! Players with high INT and a high level Mana Shield can be deceptively tanky.

This skill technically shares some synergy with Whirlwind since Whirlwind grants you a shield and Mana Shield grants MP Regen while shielded, but this synergy really only shines in the lower levels. Once enemies start to deal a lot more damage, getting up close and personal with enemies will oftentimes leave you shieldless and thus Mana Shield won't give you any MP Regen. That doesn't make either of these skills bad, it just makes this into a pitfall you might need to be cautious of when making a build.

Mana Shield + Whirlwind can be nice, but it is unlikely to last all the way into the current endgame.

In-Game Description

Grants you the Mana Shield buff. A percentage of incoming damage is absorbed using MP instead of HP. Additionally, gain 6 (+3.5 per level) (+0.25 per INT). While the shield is active, your mana regeneration increases by 1 (+0.5 per level) per tick.
