Skill level is also very important for Life Skills. In order to gather certain materials from the world, you will need to have the related Gathering Skill at a high enough level. And certain crafting recipes will only be unlocked after reaching the required Crafting Skill level as well.

Luckily, it's a lot more straightforward to level a Life Skill than it is to level a Combat Skills. Life Skills will typically level up automatically once you get enough Skill EXP for them, making it easy to keep gathering or crafting without having to worry about missing out on any benefits. Life Skills also don't have any material requirements to level them!

Sometimes referred to as "Active Points", these are a very important resource you have to be careful with due to how impactful skill level is to damage calculation.

Combat skills can cost anywhere from 1 to 3 skill points to first learn, and from that point on each additional level costs 1 skill point. Life skills cost zero skill points to first learn, and also cost zero skill points to level up all the way to max level (10).
Combat skills can cost anywhere from 1 to 3 skill points to activate at level 1, and from that point on each additional level costs 1 skill point.

Skills gain Skill EXP by using them. For example, you can level damaging skills only by last hitting enemies with said skill, healing skills by healing yourself/allies, or buffing skills by hitting enemies with any physical skill while the buff is in use. Skills can also gain EXP through the use of Skill Books, which are mainly found in dungeons. Some skills can only gain EXP with these books. Once a skill has enough EXP to level up, you must go into the Crafting Menu (M) and level upgrade it before the skill can earn any more Skill EXP.
